[artshow_photo] Framing storage and working furniture

I do both fine art photography and show at art fairs/shows, and also do children, family and pet portrait photography. I'm in my third year of business.

I'm trying to carve out a real work space in our basement for cutting mats and framing work (instead of using the dining room table!).

I'm looking for a very sturdy, large working table, maybe 50" x 70" or so, plus flat and/or vertical files for storing mattboard, mounting board, cut mats and frames.

I checked out Dick Blick and other likely sources, but as my business is still starting out, I'm reluctant to spend that much right now. I've been trying to think of less expensive alternative to use now, and maybe buy better stuff next year.

Here's what I've come up with so far.

For a sturdy table/work station:

- An unfinished furniture shop
- Second-hand furniture shops
- Yard or tag sales
- Office furniture division of a local wrecking company

For flat or vertical files:

- Ask at frame shop or art store or school for old storage pieces (but these are likely to be really beat-up and falling apart)

- Ask someone to make something for me (barter?)

- E-bay, Freecycle

- Just use large carboard boxes with cardboard dividers

Now that I've made a start with ideas, does anyone here have any other suggestions? I'd just love to get myself organized, but I promised myself that I'd keep my business spending down to the bare bones this year. I incurred all sorts of start-up costs last year, and I've got to be disciplined now.

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas you may have!
