I would always recommend your first set of instructions which would be to
copy then paste to folder of choice. Once you prove that that has been
successful, you can delete the photos from where they were originally
stored; but to cut first can be risky, and you could lose them, but by
leaving them where they were until you can verify that the copy-paste was
successful, you always have the originals that you could go back to.
