No scientific data on this but I get the distinct impression that the top micro sites are becoming far more strict on both new contributors (setting a high bar for entry requirements) and on the submission of existing contributors (quality of images submitted).

There is simply a glut of images in the micro market - many of which never sell and clog up search systems.

The result is that contributors who are uploading more or less frequently seem to be holding steady but growth is difficult to obtain.

You are right about quite a few of the top contributors - seem to have gone quiet. Not to worry - that's made up by others who don't seem to be able to shut up.
