I rely on lightroom to quickly go through images, series for pano
stitch, HDR, sequence of action, normal vs infrared, grad neutral vs 2
shot exposure, fast motion stop vs nd filtered long exposure, intimate
wildlife at 900mm equiv. or grand vista at 16mm, or whatever purpose I
need, shooting before dawn to past dusk on photo trips. I can quickly
jump through them, star the ones that grab my attention then move on
using the lightroom sorting.
I shoot a lot of images, and maybe because of my design background, I
shoot 4 or 5 styles at a time, though I may only be showing one, I'm
shooting many and storing them. I can change my style of image /
presentation just by reviewing my library, and not have to reshoot,
unless I go radically new.
But I also have libraries of 10,000+ images or more that I haven't even
looked at other than briefly. They just aren't my current subject
(mountain vistas vs local farms vs local wildlife vs urban architecture
vs caves vs lighthouses vs ???), maybe next year, or 5, I'll change my
booth subject and show them, or do a special exhibit for a gallery. Now
is not the time, though I thoroughly enjoyed shooting them, and have
sold from them on request. I think my current lightroom library is
120,000. Probably time to break it up.
I enjoy shooting challenges and can be prolific at what I do, and I know
better than try to use them all, but I'm also always looking for my next
big hit of a series. . .
