Mark:
I missed the original post for this, sorry I am replying to a reply! I am
(hopefully) going to do two shows in October--one weekend after the next! They
are not my first--my first show ever was last November, and done in conjunction
with a friend and fellow photographer. We shared a booth, and it was her booth.
I've taken the last two years to purchase items as I intended to participate in
juried shows and local festvals as often as funds will permit. So, I now have
my booth, which was just purchased over this Summer and I am ready to begin
doing shows. I've been to around seven local shows to get some ideas as to:
temperatures at time of year; survey the client community and the artists to see
what is at least being looked at and, hopefully, purchased; the expresssion of
the artist's (do they seem happy with the show, the crowd, sales, etc.) and to
view their booths and their presentations.
With that, I am planning on bringing around 200 mounted 5x7, 100 or so 8x10, and
around 50-75 (hopefully) 11x14 prints. There will also be some that are matted
(especially the 5x7) and "ready for framing" if the client chooses to frame with
a white mat--that is! I also have spent the past year framing (so far, I do my
own) and matting and framing. The distinction there is that I have just
discovered glassless framing so there is some framed that are not matted. For
the framed pieces, I have my three interior walls full with various sizes and,
while I may not be able to get them fully full, I am beginning pieces right now
that will go on the outside walls.
Doing two shows in a row with my first "date out" with trying to do shows is
going to be FUN!!!! Yes, I am convincing myself that his is FUN, not scarey!
LOL
My dream, as is everyone else's I am sure, is to be able to jury-in on Main
Street Art Festval in Ft. Worth, or either Cottonwood Festval in Richardson, or
the shows in McKinney, Frisco, Southlake, etc. I am too late this year, I
believe to try to apply, but I am hoping to next year for the year 2012
festivals. One ages rather quickly when taking into account getting into
shows! <GRIN>
