Re: Selling Stock Photography Re: Microstock: up, down or the same?

I agree with you. Hiding behind a log-in does not help. You are using the stock photo sites as a place to advertise, so to say, and that make sense.

Now when we have figured out that many of us have a little shop with targeted products of our own, operating independently, how can we make it into a department store or shopping mall???

You know, like the car sales people, they all cluster in one area or one street because people go there to look for cars as they got more to pick from and more cars are sold. Likewise, we like to go to the shopping malls because there are so many different stores in one place and it saves hassle with running around and parking the car, etc.

Why not a shopping mall for photos on the web. The present stock photo system is just one giant basket you have to root around in with a search engine to find what you want.

Just ideas for what ever they are worth.

I have seen some of these log-in sites and have asked to have access, but only found a very ordinary stock photography site, nothing extraordinary in quality, a lot of photos just dumped into a huge "bag", with a search engine, and with the extra hassle of getting a password and logging in every time.

Rolf for years I have done what I called targeted stock. That is when I take stock I have a good idea who might use the picture before I've even taken it.

The idea of making it harder for clients to view my work doesn't make sense to me. I get a fair number of enquires and a few sales by having my work
seen on Photoshelter although the majority of visitors to my site are people I know and people that google for an agricultural picture and find me through
the search engine.
