This is, IMO, what the web is all about and not only do I think this is okay but I think it is good. Yes, for those who are used to the old way, who can't change, it seems crazy but it is the very evolution of our species and what we have to do is deal with it and come up with some new rules for a new age.
If my words or images were so valuable as to be worth it I could easily protect them, to whatever extent was needed, while still making them available online. Such solutions do exist or can easily be created. Invisible watermarking is an example.
