Hello,
I bought a Epson R280 a year a go on sale for $29 (wished I bought 2 or 3
now) I got mainly for printing on CD/DVD's. We do lot of art grant
consulting and application prep for local artist here and it's great to
print directly on the CD. I purchased a Inkjetfly Big Foot CIS for the r280
as I'm print rack cards, prom cards, greeting cards and etc for several
artists and small business and need to always have ink as we live 100 miles
from civilaztion:-))) and good digital supply sources. Every thing I use is
Fedex, UPS or USPS in.
I've been running the system now for about 3 weeks and have no complaints
about the hardware or the inks. It replace another system that lasted about
a week (chip failure. I have spare chips also. I've printed over 2000
3.6x8.5 double sided rach cards on a white card stock from WalMart ($5.00
for 150 sheets 8.5x11) printed 3 up and the local office supply does the
cuts for about $1.50 per 500 8.5x11 sheets. My complaint is refilling the
reserviors. I hate syringes and they stoped selling the ink in the plastic
bottles with the 4" spout because they leaked during shipping. They didn't
put that info on the web site and still had the old photo of the bulk refill
inks in the long spouted bottles. Let's say I was not happy and told them
they need to change the photo or put a disclaimer. I like the ink; it
matches the
Epson ink and they provide good profiles. The ink comes in 100ml
bottle=3.8oz.= to about 8 carts per bottle depending on ink usage. I'm
paying $58 including shipping for a full 6 ink set. There are refill inks
for half that price but from the reviews about InkJetFly I've read and my
own usage I'm happy.
Would I switch my 2200 over to their CIS pigment inks suystem; I might after
I get my 3880. From what I've read the ink is good especaily for B&W
printing. I'm on my third 2200. The first was gift from my gallery and was
sold when I moved cross country after using it for 4 years, the second was 3
years old and a gift from a client after I moved to get me back in the mix
and died 2 weeks ago after a total of 6 years usage. So I picked up one from
Ebay for $200 with 2 sets of ink and all the accessories and it will be good
for 2-3 years as it was in storage for 3 years. It picked up where the last
one died with a couple of cleaning cycles. I've used a chip resetter on the
2200's since day one in 2003 with the first one and it has saved me a lot of
$$$ in ink costs.
I mostly print on Premier Art Watercolor paper, which seems to be Epson
Radiant white but heavier at 210gsm vs their 190gsm; the Epson profile works
great at almost half the price from Atlex.com and Premier Photo Luster
10.4mil, which is very similar to Iford Galleria Smooth Pearl 11mil at about
half the price.i also
print on Hahnemuhle FA Pearl 285gsm.
I love Black Only and Quadtone B&W printing on my 2200 so I may pick up a
couple of more as spares for all my 11x14 printing needs. I've found some
that have been rarely used from some studio photogs going out of businesses.
My solution was to find the bottles with the long spouts that would not leak
and not react to the ink. I just spent 3 hours learning all about plastic
bottles.
Cut to the the chase the solution was plastic wash bottles from
lab/chemical supply companies. They price from about $1.80 per bottle to
over $1,000 per bottle.
Here are my 1st choices:
The Cheapest:

You need to look through the listing as they have multiple choices and the
prices are for packs of 10-12:

These are very good:

So if you hate using the syringes and love CIS this may be a solution for
you.
I'm going to decide and put my order in on Monday after I do the Yellow Leaf
Festival in St. Francisville, LA
