I invested in a few heavy plastic wheeled tubs-with-covers I got from Lowes. They hold framed 16x20 images, matted images galore as well as my tool kit, money box, credit card knuckle buster, table covers, etc. And then they wheel out to the car, and I stick 'em on the back seat, and go.
Here is a link to a similar tub sold by Lows on their website today, for $32.96. I know you said money was tight, so that might be steep for you, but I'm telling you, they are one of the best investments I ever made. One other thing to think about... I use one tub, left open and 'filled' with a sheet to cover the plasticness of it, I can fill it with matted prints and use it as an alternate/extra flip bin, when placed atop the second tub:

Subject: [artshow_photo] Question about transporting prints
Hi Everyone
I'm going to do a couple of small local craft shows coming up and I've
been matting and clear-bagging 8x10 and 11x14 prints in preparation. I
have a great box that fits 8x10s perfectly- it actually came full of
8x10 pieces of foam core. But it's full as well as getting a little
dog-eared, and I need to now get serious what I'm going to transport
prints in. I've no clue what to get. Money's tight, so if anyone has
any suggestions, please keep that in mind.
Thanks a bunch, Ellen
