[artshow_photo] RE; Mounting Wood

Hi,

I've been mounting on wood (MDF, Luan, OSB and Plywood) for about 6 years
now. After I sand the surface I used Mod Podge (water based and acid free)
as
the adhesive and its bullet proof. It dries in 15-20 minute. You will need a
lot of elbow power and a power sander with 60 grit sandpaper to remove the
image.

After signing signing the image with an archival ink pen, put 2-3 coats of
clear acrylic UV spray over the print before mounting it or the varnish will
lift of the ink. I use #205 Exterior Varnish (hard, semi-gloss top coat for
inflexible surfaces) from Nova Color Paint as the top coat. These paints are
used by muralist for outdoor and indoor murals. I put on 2-3 coats using a
white nylon brush for adhesives (no camel hair or cheap brush) or a roller,
alternating the directions for each coat. This will produce brush strokes or
you can use a foam roller for a smooth finish but keep the brushes and
rollers clean, so your not trying to pick out brush hairs or dust before or
after it dries. I cover the piece with a a plastic drop cloth that is
suspended over the piece to avoid dust falling in the coating while it
dries. Watch out for bubbles and it dries in 15-30 minutes. I coat the
entire piece with the varnish.

This is the only acrylic varnish I have found that dries without still being
tacky to the touch, which is important. When I first started doing this I
ruined a series because I thought they were dry after a week and wrapped
them for shipping and the surface was marred with the imprint of the bubble
wrap or the wrapping paper stuck to the surface. I am going to experiment
with a water based marine varnish if I can fine a semi gloss or satin
finish.

Once it dries the piece can be cleaned with a damp cloth. I learned about
this from a painter friend you can also use the varnish as an adhesive but I
prefer Mod Podge.

Good luck and contact me at salongosart@gmail.com if you need more info.

"Hello:

I would like to know IF there is a way to mount matt images (printed to
100% cotton rag, likely) onto wood using a conservation technique? There
will
be acrylic over the image, but no matboard
