I do backups -- but not my only storage -- with Backblaze, and love it
*but* I have cable internet rather than DSL, so I have decent *up*load
speed. (The speed your internet is advertised at is the Download speed,
not the upload. When we had DSL at work (wedding photography studio), we
were in the same "it will take 10 months to upload everything"
situation." Once we switched to cable, it still took 6 weeks to get
everything backed up, and we still also mirror everything to a set of
hard drives on another computer in the office, but being able to cut
back on how many DVDs we burn pretty much paid for the $50/year.
I have had to restore, and found it easy, and with my folders intact. (I
chose the download option, but there is a "send a hard drive to you"
option for restore, though not for initial uptake)
Also, if you go through a decent electronic discount house online (I
like newegg, but I am sure there are others) you can find decent
external hard drives aren't super-expensive.
I also keep my final print files of my most important images (i.e. the
ones that have graduated to "I will sell this") on a private folder on
my website, just for peace of mind.
