I've said the several times in the past but will echo it again.
Get a copy of Peter Krogh's The DAM Book and memorize it.
Also look at Digital Photography Best Practices and Workflow Handbook
by Patricia Russotti and Rrichard Anderson. These two will easily save
you many hours of frustration and help put together a workable backup
plan with a way to find all your images going forward.
