You are correct. I don't go back far enough; It's just that I feel much older than I actually am.
My first encounters with the world of stock photography were in 1971 when I was a
backpacking teenager trying to sell travel and nature images and (by the mid-seventies)
supporting myself as a freelance studio assistant in NYC. In retrospect, I haven't changed or
grown much, but the world around me certainly has.
During my assisting days, I heard much talk of shooting just for stock, but didn't start
encountering it until the eighties. By then, there was an elite group of photographers that
pretty much owned the business.
