[artshow_photo] Re: Anyone using Carbonite for back up?

Carbonite is good for backup, not storage. I currently have about 150GB on Carbonite. If I had to restore all these files it would take up to two weeks to download them. I have a 1TB external drive that I backup on at least once a week using GoodSync (an excellent FREE program). I also keep a copy of all my data and pictures on my computer's hard drive. I back up the computer drive to Carbonite. This means I have three copies of my pictures: my computer, my external hard drive, and Carbonite. It may be overkill, but it's worth it.

Carbonite and Mozy synchronize your local and remote storage, so if you delete a file from your local disk it won't take too long for it to disappear from your backup as well. Give that most files recovered from backups seem to be from intentional but erroneous erasure I assume that there is some lag here, but "store them elsewhere" is not what these services are about.

great post!
I totally agree with your analysis - have you tried the Carbonite iPhone app (also BlackBerry, i think)?

very handy - access all your files from the phone.
