Absolutely nothing wrong with the S95/S90.

I prefer the G series because it is expandable. You can add an external flash (270ex) and there are adapters for both wide and telephoto lenses. An underwater housing is also available.

The difference in price between the G12 and the S95 is less than $100.

I still have a Powershot Pro1. I used it outside recently in cold weather and it worked fine, though the lag will drive you nuts. The Powershot line of cameras are very durable. Whatever the model the brand Canon, for me, is a better choice.
