Have you thought about Gatorboard? Much lighter, structurally stable, easy to work with and you can cut it with razor knife to what ever size you want. I'm paying about $75 for 3/4 4x8 black/black/black. If you are going to frame you can do 1/2 inch and for thicker you can edge band it with hot melt edge banding in just about any color of the rainbow.
