I also have a vinyl banner that I do not think looks very good any more. This is not exactly what you are looking for, but I did make some new signs this year, inspired by Larry's idea to print your own and stick it in a Clear Bag with foam core
What I did was create my sign and print it at 20"x30" at Sams for $9.00, and then mounted it to foam core. I used some from Hobby Lobby that had self adhesive on one side. One sign is smaller, and I printed it twice on the sheet, since I wanted a two-sided sign. I used an awl to punch two small holes and attached some hooks and a small chain for hanging it.
The other was a full size 20x30, which I attached to my panel with velcro.
Of course these are not waterproof, but I plan on hanging them under my awning, or directly on a panel for indoor shows. And they are not durable like a wooden sign, but I transport them along with my 20x30 canvases, so so far they are handling the use, though eventually I'm sure I'll eventually need to redo them. But they were cheap to do!
