Re: [artshow_photo] Re: can I call my prints giclee?

No, only inkjets that are called giclees are giclees. I mean no
disrespect to John, it's obvious from conversations with him here and
elsewhere that he knows the processes in detail, but giclee is just a
made-up marketing word that has no clear and rigid meaning. The intent
is certainly to imply a very high quality reproduction process, but
there isn't any standard.

Remember that whether or not you can call a bottle of wine "champagne"
is controlled by a very clear standard, whether or not the wine was made
and the grapes grown within a very specifically defined area of France.
Despite that, it's not hard to find bottles of wine that have had no
connection to the Champagne district, or even Europe, with the name on
the label.

I could mess around with a low-end image editor and come up with an
image (no transparency or drum scan), make cards on my old Epson CX-4800
multifunction device, and include giclee in the description without risk
of legal action or even serious contradiction. To answer another
message, yes, I could make originals with cans of spray paint!

The word simply doesn't mean much.
