I'm a big fan of Eizo. One of the differences of an excellent monitor is built in hardware calibration, in the monitor itself. Eizo does this and maybe a few others. (NEC?) I have a 30" Apple Cinema display side by side with my smaller Eizo. I have profiled both and they are awfully close in matching. You just don't have as much control on the Apple (brightness only).
