You might want to try the lead weight route Larry suggested. Hopefully
service stations and tire stores have old lead weights they'll give away but
that may be wishful thinking.
I used ready mixed concrete ("Quickrete") in 4" PVC pipes, 4 feet long and
as I recall they only came out about 30 pounds each. I'll bet lead is
denser and would give more weight in that size pipe.
