For what even it's worth I generally wait two generations to upgrade with
photoshop. I came from CS3 to CS5 and CS5 is lightyears ahead of CS3. I
never learned more then 10% of what CS3 could do and probably will not learn
any more than that on CS5 but I've foud things that are very useful. I like
the interface much better on CS5. I do a lot of portraiture and have found
the program Portrait Professional takes a good 70% of the work away from
CS. the first thing I do with a portrait is run it into Portrait
Professional for retouching and then back into PS for 30 seconds.
Landscapes and products go into Lightroom which is actually a lot easier
than CS. I do a lot of my printing directly from Lightroom 3.
