Very much agree with you there. That *IS* one major shortcoming of the present stock photo system.

Certainly not. Most sites don't sell at all, make no efforts at all, just waiting for photographer and buyers to "fall through the door", stumble onto something they like, and shell out money. Don't think it is likely to happen that way very often. Most stock photo sites only collect your money. That is how they make money. Not you.

True in most cases. In fact, most sites try to hide it so the repeat buyer should not develop a relationship directly with the photographer and so be able to cut out that $360/year middle man. That is not what we photographers want.
So why pay $360/year to store your photos when you can put a small copy on a free site or your own site, sell yourself (which you have to do anyway), and get the client to come direct to you. Cut out that expensive middle man.
I am certainly looking for that stock photo site that will sell, not just try to take my money.

This site does have photographer's gallery in favor of it so you could do promotions on your own. You have to ask yourself is it worth $360/year to you and do you have a quality portfolio to compete with in the market? You really can't rely on them to create sales for you...
One thing I did notice during my brief search session in their database, is that the photographer isn't cross referenced on the photos so even if someone likes your image they don't have the option to 'see more by this photographer' until they login to submit a request. (All the image says is 'photographer based in France') So unless they know your name, they can't check out the rest of your portfolio. I guess this is how they keep themselves involved as the middle man.
