Fred and Peter:

Is this a "teachable moment?"

I don't mean for you two, but rather for the many stock photography newcomers who bring
with them a fantasy that is so wrong that it often leaves me both speechless and baffled - in
no way is this a civil business.

The stock photography business is very small and deeply contested. It is not possible to
make a sale without taking a sale away from somebody else. This has led to some pretty
brutal exchanges in both discussion groups like this and public events like workshops and
conventions. If you want to participate in this business AND know some other participants,
you should expect a bit of friction.

So if you're coming to stock photography because you feel that the people in your present job
or business don't get along well enough, I urge you to think again.

Fred, I truly appreciate this list you've created; it gives us the chance for civil discussion and I
recognize that keeping it civil is a tough task. For this effort, I can't thank you enough.
