I've had dealings with Photographer's Direct for years now and they are a legitimate tool for photographers, unless you wish to go outside the model that existed almost exclusively up until 10 years ago.
I have no problem at all with those who wish to deal with only RM or high-priced RF but don't waste your time if you are just establishing yourself and are going to consider viral marketing, blogging, or any non-traditional form of marketing or sales because you may find all of the time invested with them to be a waste as any photographer might be barred from PD if they provide free or low-cost images.
As a business owner myself I respect the right of the owners to do business as they please, but make sure that you know who you're dealing with whether it's Photographer's Direct or anyone else.
