Selling Stock Photography Re: 'Photographers Direct' and 'PhotoDeck'

Luis,

I have plenty photos that should be rated 6. I take a lot of non-travel mundane shots of all sorts of things in which content is the king. I am not at school anymore and don't care about the grade but if AGE picks a photo, whether it sells or not, it is a good photo, well composed, well lit, and certainly has a high chance of selling.

My frustration with PD is the fact that they did well in 2005-2006 but since then things have changed. This has been covered on forums since many many times. People who know a lot more than me say the same thing. It was not my idea that they "embraced the wrong market." This has been talked about quite a bit. I used to get genuine requests and sales through there. In past six months, I have been contacted by numerous people who want photos for free, an Italian group who was looking for a shooter for a porn film this summer in Prague, and a "charity group" that conviniently emailed me on Christmas day to ask for a photo for free.

As to AGE, there are many whose photos they can't sell. Their markets happen to be where I am active and I have a chance. I think though that mainly it is a place for Latin specialists, lifestyle shooters, and some others. They make more commercials sales than most, and their picks are influenced by the commercial aspect of photos (for instance, they like to pick travel/cityscape etc. photos that have no people in them preferably - so they opt for the commercial market before editorial one and this should be kept in mind). I am lucky with where I live and where I can travel, and Age can produce results for me at the moment. But I am aware that this could change at any time for any reason, so life is uncertain and the end is always near.
