Re: [artshow_photo] Art show future in WI?

Mark is correct - the last thing we need in this country is a two party system!
Plus The Bill in question makes it so it's legal to not hire gays or lesbians,
at least we won't have dem guys in our work place anymore WHEW! - SECTION 32.

Also the cool thing is we don't have to pay for those dead beat parents with
disable children anymore sucking tax payer money. Birth to Three is dead. So if
you have a child with Down Syndrome, sucks to be you, OH - and don't put that
kid in a public school, those Special Ed classrooms are going away also - can't
afford them. Gotta cut costs SOMEWHERE.

yea - we don't need no stinking Unions to protect our rights!

I am pretty familiar with Wisconsin, having lived and raised children there.I
did shows there early on (late 70's) and did Madison on the Square a few years
back. With all respect due my cheese head brethren pretty sure those blue collar
folks ain't the ones buying things to hang on the walls. They tend toward tractor
"pitchers" and those of chickens and what not.
Hope the union gets shown the door, they stopped caring about the worker along
time back, chose instead to line their own pockets.

What is the future for art shows in Wisconsin? Given the current political
unrest and the proposed 'union busting' bill, I believe the future does not
look good for shows in Wisconsin, especially the smaller shows. Included in
the bill is the provision that all public employees will have to pay a
proportion of retirement and health costs - this is about 8% of a salary.
Whether or not you believe this should occur (I do NOT want to start a
political debate here), people will not have the discretionary money they
used to have that they can spend on art. I know this is the case for us -
my wife's income will be cut by about 8% - the only reason we can stay where
we are living now is that I teach some extra classes that will make up the
shortfall.

What do other people think about the future now? i know there was doom and
gloom a few years ago with the tanking economy - but this is now added on
top. I have to seriously think about how many shows I will do this year,
and how to price my work.

Opinions?

Steve
