Re: [artshow_photo] Commerical Vechicle Status

Questions, does your 6x12 trailer have a mfg sticker rating it at 10,000
GVWR? I doubt it is above 7,000. Your F-250 is probably rated at 8800. Do
you have any signage on your vehicles signaling you are a business? The
federal law defines a commercial vehicle as: Any combination of vehicles
with a GCWR of 26,001 or more pounds provided the GVWR of the vehicle(s)
being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds. The states can be stricter but
not less than the federal laws and some do. I doubt you broke any laws,
probably a victim of a cash strapped state.

In all states if you meet the requirement of CMV then you have to have a DOT
number displayed, carry (and fill out) a log book, stop at all weigh
stations and license your vehicle accordingly. I have been delivering
travel trailer and fifth wheel campers from manufacturing to dealers for the
last 7 years. I use a 1 ton F-350 dually. I have to be licensed up to 26,000
since I tow trailers over 10,000 GVWR and I have to have a CDL, stop at all
weigh scales, fill out a log book, be subject to road side inspections, and
buy permits to cross certain states. Arizona is one that requires CMVs to
buy permits.

I use the RV business to pay my way to places where I want to visit and
shoot pictures, otherwise it would not be worth the hassle. I hate to hear
you got stopped, but I see it more and more in all the states that I travel.
Welcome to my world.
