I have a 7800. I believe the 7880 (90) are built the same way.

There was a class action lawsuit (USA) several years ago about the fact

that

there is ink left in the carts when the printer stops. Epson lost the

lawsuit,

but several things came out of it.

First Epson uses Piezo heads and has repeatedly stated that

running the head out of ink can damage the head. The ink also

acts as a coolant.

Secondly, the larger (than the 2200) printers have very long feed lines.

If the carts run dry, the lines can get bubbles in them and/or feed

erratically. This might necessitate purging the lines which wastes

more ink than the small amount left in the carts.

The lawyers who sued Epson made a couple million and each of

us in the class got a coupon good for 10% discount at the Epson store.

So guess who won?
