[artshow_photo] Re: Feedback on my 'Business Plan'

That really is only "part" of a business plan. The other part is how you are going to get sales and make up your initial investment? It's something you really need to consider. You set your prices in order to account for business expenses and paying yourself. Setting prices out of research is one thing, but everything you'll need to do is based upon earning a salary.

What what type of photography are you in? If it is nature/outdoor/landscape you'll likely find a lot of competition in that highly saturated market. To really succeed in selling photography at art shows you either need to have a unique niche` in what you photograph, or you need to be a very good salesman. Selling prints as probably more salesmanship than photography skill. Many art buyers are looking for certain sizes but more often certain colors to match their room.

100 different images is WAY, WAY too many! Add up all the costs in printing, mounting, matting, and bagging 100 different images in all the sizes you listed. It will be a lot, and it will require a lot of space in your booth as well as in your vehicle. How would you be able to physically display 300 to 350 different matted images in your booth? You'd also end up with probably 75 of those images that don't sell or sell rarely. I really suggest starting out slowly and as minimal as possible. Images you or your family likes a lot may not even get a second look from buyers.

And the way the economy is, if you have a good paying job I really wouldn't want to trade it in for an endeavor that may not give you any income for a couple of years and will require a decent start up investment. Once a hobby becomes your job, it's work and not fun. Think about it.

If you do start it up, consider doing it slowly while keeping your day job. If selling photography doesn't bring in enough money you can fold it and you still have a full time job. Many people do jobs they don't like so they can feed their family and enjoy the rest of their lives outside work. Work being enjoyable is a rare thing.
