[artshow_photo] Re: Paper Brand Choices

Cheap paper is cheap for a reason. There are plenty of very expensive fine art papers that might not be worth the price but Epson certainly isn't one of them. The Epson fine art papers (Exhbition Fiber, Velvet, etc.)are actually at the lower end of price scale for what's considered fine art paper. I doubt you'll find paper "just as good" for much less. Ilford Galerie makes some nice papers at about the same price.

In my opinion, you are shorting your customer (and your own art) by using the cheaper papers. Use it for your test prints, etc. but isn't your work worth a few $ more per box to get the best quality prints?

I started using Epson Exhibition Fiber for all of my prints I print myself. I tried it for it's reputation for black and white prints - I do a lot of black and white landscape work - and combined with Ultrachrome K3 printer the b&w print quality is stunning. Deep blacks and bright whites. I tried it with color and liked it just as much. Very vivid and very very sharp.

The custom lab I use for large prints uses Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl which make a very nice looking print.
