I'll just comment on this one thing, though if I had the time....

Picture taking has changed a lot and for the better, IMO. Just in the past ten years the overall quality of photos has gotten much better as cameras and lenses have improved. That alone changes "picture taking".

I was surprised to find that most of the point-and-shoot cameras I buy have the capability to take time exposures up to 30 seconds or so. That allows more people to experiment and pushed the high end of photographers higher as they need to find ways to further distinguish themselves from the pack.

And I know I'm going to get some sh*t for this but if Ansel Adams were around today with the equipment he had then nobody would give a damn about him or know his name. I have met many photographers who produce better photos than Ansel Adams and that would not have been the case if they had been photographers back in his day.

The ability to shoot at high frame rates and at 100,000 ISO film speed has changed "picture taking" for the better.

Auto focus has changed many photos from throw aways to keepers and the new technology has made anything but perfect focus out of the question for commercial photography. Back in the day it was rare to get perfect focus unless you were shooting in the studio. The quality of lenses and digital image capture and high quality printing mean we can actually see all that sharpness and color as never before. My desktop printer puts to shame the best printing presses around when I worked in the printing industry.

Howver I do agree that the basics of "picture taking" have not changed much, if at all.
