[artshow_photo] Re: HI

Hi Pam, welcome to the group!

It's a daunting task, isn't it? There's a lot more work involved in
being an artist than meets the eye of the casual observer strolling
the aisles at the local art fair. It's a very tough business,
especially for photography these days. Before you go too far down the
garden path, you should be clear about your objectives and your
reasons for wanting to do shows. Having a few photographs that your
friends and family gush over is nice, but it may not get you very far
if you want to make a living as an artist. Don't let that discourage
you, though. Be clear about your work, and you will do just fine.

The best advice I can give you is to break down the tasks into
manageable pieces. It sounds like you've already got a good handle on
the mechanics of it -- the tent, the display systems and all. To learn
about all five things you must do to become a successful show artist,
read this post:

Aside from the mechanics of mounting a traveling display, there's the
niggling business of finding shows. There are a few good sources, and
many more piecemeal sources. Once you've started doing shows, more
solicitations and flyers than you know what to do with will start
flooding your email and snail mailbox. But in the meantime what do you
do? Another useful article on finding art shows that meet your goals
is here:

And I might add that the companion site, artshowphoto.com was and is a
constant source of information for me and countless others. If you
haven't read it yet, do yourself a favor, and read every article in
Larry Bernan's excellent basic resource. He's the guy that started
this group, and is very active in the artists community.

That should get you started. Good luck!
