[artshow_photo] Re: Pricing - Art Show vs Website

Walking the Southlake, TX Art in the Square last weekend, I overheard a photographer talking to an attendee, and thought it was kind of a clever strategy! (whether it was meant to be one or not) The attendee was asking about purchasing an alternate size or if it would be possible to make a purchase from him at a later date, and he said something like:

"Of course! Here is my web-address. Just go to my website to view all that I offer. Now, there will be the option to purchase directly from my website, but don't! Those are gallery prices, and I will give you my live-sale price. Just drop me an e-mail, and I'll order it for you like."

To me, it seemed like a good way to give the client the sense that your work has a high value, and feel like they are getting a good price. I feel like he was saying, "You are special. You are a friend. Not only will I give you a discount, I will also do the work for you."

I of course am a super newbie, but I thought it was clever.

Any thoughts?
