[artshow_photo] Re: What constitutes a good show?

Rod,

I was trying to put the thread together regarding these two aspects of consumers - a) unemployment and b) economic ability and likelihood of the consumer to buy art. My opinion is that government employees might represent a demographic that would be more likely to be in a position to purchase art, and I believe that this demographic is larger than "the wealthy". I could be mistaken about this but I'd be surprised if I was. If you are correct and I'm correct, then the art community has lost a chunk of customers.

But I've also read that over the next 2 years "the nation's largest employer is projected to hire nearly 193,000 new employees":

I also recall hearing that quite a number of federal positions have been filled in the last couple of years.

Henry - that was more opinion from a former Wisconsin Government employee - we lost a TON of government employees in the last 2 months - about 30,000 with many going on unemployment - so it has to add to unemployment numbers.

The ones not on unemployment are now not only getting retirement benefits but also were hired BACK at their former jobs (called double dipping) because there is no one to do their jobs.

I don't understand how you can decrease government size (buy laying off people) and expect unemployment to go down. Makes no fiscal sense except for political maneuvering.
