Re: [artshow_photo] economy - my last word

Respected economists will disagree on our economy--its state, and what actions to take. For myself, I regret that we as a nation failed to use the recession to create jobs and to improve our infrastructure at the same time. Our roads, our bridges, our electrical network, our system of rail and air transportation, our police and fire protection, our educational system at all levels--all are underfunded, and in a state of decline. How are we going to compete in a world economy without an educated workforce functioning in a favorable environment?

Yes, we do have a burdensome deficit. But economic history shows that we have been prosperous at times of higher taxes. Are we not willing to bear a small increase in taxation to continue as a great nation?

More directly on sales of the arts: I think consumer confidence is probably the most largest determinant of our sales success.

By the way, I'm not an economist either, but I've studied economics at the graduate level at MIT, and had courses in business cycles from Paul Samuelson, who won a Nobel Prize for his work.
