Re: Selling Stock Photography zazzle and mousepads

Steve , I took a few hours off yesterday and went to have a look around one of those big computer centers in town, which also sells a lot of cameras and photo equipment and this is to share what I saw.

These are big places, each floor about 2,000 sq meters (20,000 SQ foot) or more, typically four or five floors, and two to four such buildings in one block.

About 60% of all mousepads now had pictures on them, mostly computer graphics, none with photographs as I could see. I few months ago it was almost unique to see anything by plain mousepads or corporate ads.

You may have struck a new trend at the beginning.

Prices was typically 30, 45 and 60 RMB (4.60, 6.90, or 9.20 in USD) depending on size. Stores typically have 20% margin, and often discount 10%.

It would be difficult to sell anything over the internet, the stores are usually small family operation on 2 to 4 Sq meters with no international experience, what you can do is track down local sales people by looking at sites like Voipbuster (selling VOIP calls) and approach their local agents and ask them to sell on commission. These people are usually young students and young unemployed people and work on almost zero overheads, and if they can make money this way, they'll go for it. They'll just go around and ask stores to sign up for deliveries. This is the way it is done in China, face to face, and hands on.

May be an opportunity.

Yesterday I started a new Zazzle page selling only mousepads, I am pleased to report I have sold my 1st mousepad already!

Fingers crossed it will be the 1st of many.
