> What are your recommmendations for adding social media to a website (or general marketing practices)? I confess to being a little intimidated by it all, but people (okay, my grown kids....) are trying to convince me I need to pursue this. Have any of you found social media to be helpful? If so, how?
Gail, this is a real open-ended question. In a nutshell, yes, you should do it, and yes, it can be helpful in helping you to grow your audience. it's all part of the mix.
There are tons of articles on the web describing how to do it. Try doing a google search for "social media for artists".
One of the best artist-specific resources is Alyson Stanfield, an artist consultant from Colorado, who runs workshops, both online and on site. She is an early adopter of Facebook and Twitter, has very good recommendations on how to go about marketing your work, whatever your medium. Check her out at http://www.artbizcoach.com/

I mentioned some other resources in a blog post some months ago, here:
You have a Facebook page. So now what?
Start a blog, if you don't have one already. You can use it to promote recent work, upcoming shows and your philosophy of life. You can do it on WordPress.com for free, or you can post to the artists community at artfairinsiders.com. One of the best bloggers, and a great source of info: http://www.problogger.net/
It takes time and effort. Just like developing your art.
