Wow,
I thought the thread on LE could get vicious, but well this is a forum for
the free exchange of thoughts and ideas..
I find like some have said; that some of my best seller's tend to be boring
to the me. I find at least in my booth it seems the best selling
images are the ones that make the viewer go wow, hits some emotional cord
and are well execute in the printing and presentation.
Although I have some images that sell well that were complete accidents,
like a film jam created unintentional multiple exposures or
forgot to put a color correction filter on when shooting some tungsten film
during the day. Of course this was back when I did film and shot 4x5, 35mm
and 120.
But then some best sellers can be regional or ethnic. I know here in
Mississippi and Louisiana; if you have a picture, painting, or sculpture of
a rooster or a Fleur de lLe it's gone in 60 seconds but if I had them in
LA/SF Calif I would still be looking at them for a while. I have a body of
images of African American civil war reenacters that sells very well at
African American art festivals but does poorly at festivals that are
multicultural in nature.
So; some times region and crowd demographics can have some influence on what
may become a best selling image and our research will also play a part and
then there is plain old luck. Of course this is all just my opinion.

I find in general these best selling subjects are a waste of time so
I don't tend to follow these threads. Otherwise I would have tried to
close the thread before it got nasty.
It's not the subject as much as it is the skill of the photographer
and the lighting. Any subject can be captured beautifully by a
talented photographer."
