Hi
As you know I ask your take in comments from another artist. I forgot to mention
that this artist medium was wall ceramics. Since then, I took a look to what I
have and follow some of the advices. I do not have doubt about my work just
about my display. You always doubt your work when sales are not going well and
if believe in your work and had received go comments about it you do need to
change it. Besides even if you want to change it it will take some time.
Here are things I did so far. Took all tiles floor and clean them up. Home made
print bin and clean it up. Rinse down my pro panels. Took some frames pieces
with single mat and change them to double mats. Start using Museum Glass in some
the frames pieces I am replacing. Refigure my display using Illustrator. Yes is
not the same as see in the walls but it give a blue print where to start.
Specially if you are doing everything to scale. I took a look to Peter
photographers references and set up some goals. I know what type of photography
I do not want to do.
I also notice one thing, I need to print big. The problem with that is that
reduce what you can show in the wall. The truth is take the same effort to sale
an 8X10 that 30X40. I had framing 16X24 and 20X30 prints but still feel the need
to go bigger but that is the best sizes for 10X10 display. Yes all the pieces
get 3(1/4) mats. No, I refuse to go into canvas. Yes it hard times in the retail
industry but lower prices and scaling down and asking more money for less does
not help. After all I notice that was cutting down and not putting the best
product out there.
The thing I forgot in the past years is look around and see the work from other
artists (shows and galleries). If I want stand out I need to do work that not
every photographer is doing. So landscapes and Europe images are out. People
images do not sale as well. Produce set of three and start producing horizontal
work and less vertical. Think about where the customer will place them. The most
important thing keep producing work. Some of my work is simple but we not see
the same. In 2 weeks I will do my next show and then Ann Arbor.
