to a point this is true, but a part of it isn't. If a photographer is
hired by a newspaper, for advertising or editorial purposes, any image taken and
used by said newspaper is owned by the newspaper unless the image is
supplied by the company for use in the ad or if the individual is submitting an
image being submitted with a press release. Any photo that is taken by a
photo studio falls under copyright. To be reused or reproduced, an individual
needs prior permission from said studio or newspaper. This also comes into
play if anyone wants to use a photo taken for and used by a newspaper by
the staff or freelance photographer. This includes posting the photo and or
article line. Credit needs to be given to the paper/photographer.
Any stock photo purchased from an agency, the person or company is buying
the rights to use it based upon whatever the agreement is.
