That is an experience that will not want to be part of it. I was in 57th and
small storm around 4 pm pass through but we only got the outer rim. I guess you
guys got the full storm. Are does EZ UP still standing at the one of those
photos. That just add insult to the pain.
The one thing that we all need to know. If we have smart phone check the radar
every time you have a chance. If the sky start looking gray just check the radar
to see how bad it will be and do not be so confidence about your set up.
Sometimes no matter what you will loose but is all about how much you want to
loose.

I was one of the unfortunate one's with disaster in Columbus on
Saturday night. I had a double trimline, that acted as a parachute,
that captured the wind from just the right angle, full front. My
mistake was not getting the front zipped up fast enough. It hit very
fast, with no warning. I had been raining on and off a bot during the
day, and it seemed like another rain coming. The previous rain that
came I had 20 people hiding in my booth. This time was different, I
had to quickly unsnap my front sides, and they were flapping in the
wind furiously, so I velcroed them to the tent poles. I did not have
time to zip them up, and instead held down the poles so the tent would
not fly away.. Did not work!
Lesson learned, ZIP UP! I have stay bars, holding tight, weights at
this point seemed frivolous. The Micro Burst as they were calling it,
hit hard and fast. The tent did hold together and the propanels folded
in and the work tumbled on top of the pro panels. We were getting
soaked with rain and hail, along with the wind. It lasted maybe 10
minutes.
I drove home after that craziness back to NY, to regroup, and just
pulled out all my tent poles. More than a dozen of the steel poles are
bent, some in an L shape, and Im just starting to examine them. I have
to be back in Old Town Chicago in a few days, and I'm trying to see if
I can make a single booth out of it.
The work is compromised, but amazing that it's mostly frame damage.
The pieces themselves along with museum glass held together. Pieces
ranging from 40" x 40", to 20" x 60", and so on. 15 pieces, plus more
inventory that was to last for 8 shows in a row.
My iphone is dead, I was lying in a river of water holding the tent
down. I need to see if a new simm card will get it working..
more later, on insurance, unknown damage, issues... The show has set
up a relief fund. 32 artists had damage, 14 did not return on Sunday.
