[artshow_photo] Re: Is print size 12x16 size instead of 11x14 ok?

Sorry for the late response - been out of town. First off, you don't indicate whether the sizes to which you refer are print sizes or outside (frame) sizes. However, in either case, a 12x16 is NOT the same proportion as a 16x20. The 12x16 is 3:4, while the 16x20 is 4:5. To be the same proportion as a 16x20 would require a 12x15 size.
That said, there is no reason why someone couldn't insert a smaller same-proportion print into a 12x16 or 16x20 mat.
Someone once told me that if you can buy a lite of glass in a given size (pre-cut boxes of frame glass), it can be considered "standard." Under this "definition," since one can buy 12x16 lites, it could be considered standard.
However, you will not find 12x16 pre-cut frames at most frame stores, nor will you find pre-cut mats that size. So, in all likelihood, if you offer 12x16's (outside dimension), your customer will most likely have to purchase a custom frame & mat.
Now if you're talking print sizes, it really doesn't matter since you can mat & frame it up to any size you wish.
Before I switched to square prints, I offered 12x16 outside dimension, which were quite successful with the exception of one angry customer who couldn't find a 12x16 ready-made frame. (I gave him a refund, and let him keep the print). I put in 8x12 (2:3) or 9x12 (3:4) images.
Furthermore, I would not offer a 12x16 in conjunction with a 16x20. They're too close in size. For that matter, I would not offer the 11x14 along with a 16x20, but that's just my preference.

Gives the customer a slightly larger image. It's not a standard size at our lab, but can be a trimmed 16x20.
