For larger prints, wood framed crates on wheels are the most durable. They are also harder to lift into a van. Many artists build storage into the van and transport the work, padded out with moving blankets or "pillow bags" (see current thread) on a dolly, or bring the van to the booth to load and unload. Advantage: van.
Art Garters, a set of four "bunny ears" can be used to pad the corners -- they come in small, medium, large and custom sizes, for about $8 each. They last forever, and you can't make them nearly as efficiently as Nettie Myers, the originator. http://www.artgarters.com. They don't pad the middle of the frames or the glass though. Just protect the corners, and keep the edges of the frame off the ground. HIghly recommended.
My biggest frame carrier is about 48" tall by 36" deep by 24" wide, and runs on 8" wheels. Two doors on the short side allow independent access to the interior, which is padded with indoor/outdoor carpet. Each piece has padded corners, or goes in a padded bag. This box will hold 8 30x40 pieces for example, with room to spare. It's heavy, but it fits into storage behind the booth, and rolls up a ramp into the trailer. Advantage: trailer.
