Re: [artshow_photo] a bit OT: crossover car suggestions with a 40x60 plus flat area

Thanks Robin and everyone who gave suggestions. I ended up buying a 2012 Mazda 5 Sport, and it looks like it will fit the bill perfectly. I really like the 2 sliding doors on the side, hatchback (unlike the swinging door on the Toyota RAV4), 3 row seating and the fact that when all seats are folded down, I can put a 40x74 canvas inside (or stack of them up to about 36 inches).

Price before taxes and fees was about $19,000.

All the best,

Andrew

Those other cars just weren't big enough to haul photos, bins of other stuff and my 6' x 3' gridwall panels (yeesh, gotta get something better one of these days). On the Element, I could easily take out the back seats completely leaving a wide flat solid floor and lots of height. It's longer than 64" and the width is 42" except for a little bump out thingy where it's only 39" (darn!). I love the roominess and it's been totally reliable.

I thought that meant a minivan was necessary, but the 2010/2011 Toyota RAV4 fits the bill so far (it even has D-rings to use bungees or other strapping material). The Chevy HHR is not too far behind on my list, though the space is smaller. Does anyone else have a suggestion for a crossover-type car that gets about 30MPG Hwy ($25,000 price range new) that has a large and flat storage area?
