Wow, I wasn't expecting so many responses! Thank you ALL for your help in this matter.

Before the show, the promotor did require all exhibitors to send them an ST-19 form, which I did fill out and send them.

I assumed that there would be a "special event sales and use tax form" to fill out and mail with my collected sales tax included in my show packet. There was not.

I don't hold the promotor accountable in any way. They are probably doing everything by the book. I was just not expecting sending money to the state to be so difficult. No wonder they had a government shut-down!

I will go through your suggestions and see what I can accomplish. I was not expecting to have to apply for a MN state tax ID #. What a PITA. Although I had a good show, I'm not expecting to return to the state for another show for many more years.
