Re: [artshow_photo] Website Pros & Cons

you have several options

1. pay for a web hosting plan where you get the website and cart software
you plug a merchant account into. I can't point you to one specifically.
they tend to be templated and not well designed for photographers.

2. find cart software that plugs into a supply your own merchant account,
such as oscommerce. you're on your own this way but it can be more flexible

the problem with these two is they're not art friendly all the time. like
you may get to add a size, but selecting a matte, color of matte, frame and
frame type can get complex and you don't want someone picking a 11x14 print
and a 5x7 matte and expecting you to eat the difference.

3. write your own cart to get your own features. you're looking at hundreds
of hours of coding if experienced.

4. go with a third party art seller like http://www.mpixpro.com/, etsy or
such where they take a percentage of each sale. check that a site doesn't
have minimum threshholds and monthly fees because unless you sell enough you
could make nothing off a sale

the problem here is that you can get lost in the shuffle of a site like etsy
with other people's sales.

I for one am going to look at mpix pro and see what it offers at some
point. I've been needing a good way to sell wedding prints the rare times I
photograph a wedding.
