Re: Selling Stock Photography Tips from Photoshelter

I got it and eyed it through quickly, my opinion, good value and thumbs up. Specially for beginners.

It also remind me of an old story. This was before the Nigerian scams.

A guy advertised, "Want to make money quickly, send me five dollars and I will send you my short guide".

Those who did got a very short guide, it simply said "Do as I do".

Fifteen years ago, you put up a website, and people could flock to it, today you have to go out and sell it. That is what these guides do, sell the service of Photoshelter, by providing something free that has real value to the receiver and potential customer.

Photographers could learn, bundle their services with something related, as giving free lectures, free training, free guides, etc. It is a new form of commercials, commercials that has a real value for the receiver.

A minor irritation, to learn from if you plan to send out such guides or information in PDF form. You start to read the left column at the top, then you have to scroll down to read the end, then to scroll back up to get to the top of the next column, etc Design the content so one page fits one full computer screen.

The booklet does not address the issues internationally, it is focused only on the US. For instance, in China we don't use model releases. It is considered that if a model place herself/himself in front of a camera, they have agreed to be photographed. On that note, in the west models are often viewed as disposables with a use by date. Here, if a photographer find a good model, it is like finding a gold nugget that makes money. The same goes for the model. You really take care of the relationship.

Just my 2 cents
