Gotta keep trying. Like someone said, It takes a little while to nail it down.
Here is my hot tip. This is from some good years and so so good years on the circuit.
When its slow or the crowd is a bunch of dead Zombies (I love Zombies).
I change my tactics.
I will jump out front, while all the other artists/vendors are at the back of their booth, and start engaging every single person who walks by.
I will say real quick, How are ya today? Great show, having fun? Have you ever seen my work/gallery?
Why no they say.
Bam
Thats when I invite them in and say please look around.
Then I will let tehm look for some minutes before I talk again.
I can not count how many sales i get from that.
Its hard to overcome the bad vibes at a show when no one is buying from anyone.
Gotta get them smiling. When people are at your booth, more people seem to show up.
Kinda like feeding cattle. One starts they all start.
A big prob I see in all art shows/fairs is that alot of artist are very shy, not a marketer/salesman.
How many people do you see sitting at the back of their booth? Reading!!!Puzzles!!!
Gotta sell. You only have so much time.
One thing that helps me alot is my camera prop.
I am a 4x5 view camera photographer here in the Fl Keys. I set the camera up in all its handmade cherrywood glory and people come out of nowhere to see what it is.
Alos beef up your entrance to the booth. Signs, artist statement, etc.
