Joe - Quick story here, as I once did this, until...two small children running loose while their mother shopped, ran into my booth chasing each other, tripped over my tripod, and sent my 4x5 crashing to the ground, breaking it. Epilogue - I did sue the mother, where the judge awarded me 2/3's judgement, stating that I was 1/3 at fault for having my camera/tripod in a precarious place.
Also, in the 1990's I was the proud owner of a 4x5 Zone VI cherrywood camera, with gold plated hardware. It was so beautiful that I would set it out in the living room as a decorative piece to admire. Would the cherrywood camera you speak of also be a Zone VI, or perhaps a Wista?
