It'll be hard to go wrong anywhere in New England at that time! Fall
colors look like they're going to be a bit early this year since I'm seeing a
lot of color in our trees around here (Rochester, NY) already. You should
hit the peak just fine and maybe even a little past peak in some areas would
be my guess.
Maybe I'll see you there. We're taking a couple of weeks about that time
and heading all over New England ourselves with my camera all charged up
and ready to go. Hotels/motels may be a bit scarce and very pricey,
especially on weekends. We'll have the back of my Navigator as our back up place
to sleep if all else fails.
We're planning to get to Acadia National Park in Maine. It's amazingly
diverse. Besides the beautiful rocky ocean scenes, if you drive inland less
than 1/4 mile it's very alpine ("northwoodsy") and should be great in
mid-October.
